Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from therapy?
Your therapy sessions will provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for you to explore the things that are going on in your life. We will work together to navigate whatever it is that has brought you in for sessions. Some forms of therapy are insight-oriented, aiming to increase self-awareness and understand unconscious processes. Other forms are more active, focused on the development of coping skills and strategies. You can feel confident that we will tailor the approach to best suit your needs and goals. Overall, you can expect that therapy will help to guide you towards greater self-awareness, feelings of empowerment, and fulfillment.
What happens during my initial session?
Your initial session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to start to get to know one another. Research shows that the therapeutic relationship is central to effective therapy so we want to make sure we spend time developing a strong foundation for working together. You will start to share your story and your hopes for therapy, and we will begin to explore how we can best help you.
How long and how frequent are sessions?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. We usually recommend seeing your therapist once a week, especially in the beginning stages of therapy, in order to establish a relationship and build momentum. That being said, we are always respectful of your scheduling needs. Once you meet with your therapist, together, you can decide what the best approach will be.
How long will I be in therapy?
The course of therapy is dependent on several factors including: the nature of the issue, your goals for therapy, your level of commitment to the therapy process, and frequency of sessions. Once your therapist has spent some time getting to know you, they will have a better idea of treatment duration. Meaningful change does take time, so we encourage you to think of therapy as an investment into your well-being.
